What Private-i Is
Private-i Contractor Vetting is a research service that compiles publicly available information about residential roofing contractors to help homeowners make more informed hiring decisions. Reports are produced by Pagios Enterprises LLC, doing business as PAGIOS and Private-i Contractor Vetting.
What Private-i Is Not
- Not a consumer reporting agency. Private-i is not a "consumer reporting agency" as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. Section 1681 et seq. Our reports are not "consumer reports" under the FCRA and may not be used for any FCRA-regulated purpose, including employment screening, tenant screening, or credit decisions.
- Not legal advice. Nothing in any Private-i report constitutes legal advice. We do not identify, assess, or advise on legal liability, contractual obligations, or rights under any contract or statute.
- Not professional advice. Our reports do not constitute professional engineering, construction, insurance, or financial advice.
- Not an endorsement. A favorable report score or "Verified Trusted" tier designation is not a recommendation or endorsement of any contractor. It reflects available public data at the time the report was generated, nothing more.
- Not a guarantee. No report predicts or guarantees future contractor behavior, workmanship quality, or project outcome.
Data Sources and Limitations
Private-i reports draw from publicly accessible sources, including:
- State contractor licensing and registration databases
- Secretary of State business entity filings
- Federal and state civil court records
- OSHA enforcement and inspection records
- Consumer review platforms (Google, BBB, and others)
- Roofing manufacturer certification programs
- Public insurance and bond records where available
- General online presence and domain registration records
Public records have known limitations. They may be incomplete, delayed, incorrectly filed, or not yet available in searchable databases. A contractor may have a recent license suspension, judgment, or complaint that has not yet appeared in any public record at the time we conduct our research. We make reasonable efforts to use current sources, but we cannot guarantee completeness or real-time accuracy.
Scoring Methodology
Each report includes a numeric score (0 to 100) and a vetting tier (Verified Trusted, Acceptable, or Avoid). Scores are calculated by a deterministic algorithm that applies a weighted rubric to the findings gathered during research. The rubric and weights reflect our own judgment about which factors most commonly correlate with contractor reliability. They are not derived from actuarial data, insurance models, or third-party certification standards.
A score does not predict the probability of a good or bad outcome. Two contractors with similar scores may produce very different results on any given job.
Hard Stop Findings
If our research uncovers a revoked or currently suspended contractor license, we flag the report with a "Hard Stop" designation and do not produce a full dossier. This designation means: the contractor is not legally authorized to perform licensed work in the state checked, based on publicly available records as of the report date. It does not mean the contractor has committed fraud or that hiring them would result in harm. License reinstatement or corrections may not yet be reflected in public data.
No Contractor Relationship
Private-i has no affiliation with, financial interest in, or contractual relationship with any contractor we research. We do not accept payment from contractors in exchange for scores, tiers, or inclusion in any report. Contractors cannot purchase favorable placement or suppression of findings.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pagios Enterprises LLC is not liable for any decision you make based on a Private-i report, including your decision to hire or not hire any contractor. See our Terms of Service for the full limitation of liability.
