This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect when you use privateicontractorvetting.com, how we use it, and how we keep it. We try to be straightforward - we don't run an ad-tech operation; we run a small contractor-vetting service.

What we collect

When you order a vetting report, we collect:

• The contractor's name and city/state that you provide on the order form. This is the subject of your report.
• Your email address, where we deliver the report.
• Optionally, your name, if you choose to provide it (used to address the report to you).
• The payment record from Stripe - confirmation of payment, transaction ID, and the masked last-four digits of your payment method as Stripe reports them. We do not see or store full card numbers; Stripe handles that.
• Standard web server log entries when you visit the Site - IP address, browser user-agent, referring URL, request paths and timestamps. These are retained for 30 days for operational and security purposes.

What we don't collect

We do not collect or store:

• Your full payment card information.
• Sensitive personal information not relevant to producing your report (e.g., we don't ask for your address, phone number, or any government identifier).
• Information from third parties about you (we don't buy customer data).
• Cross-site tracking. We do not embed marketing tracking pixels on the Site.

How we use what we collect

The information you provide is used to:

1. Produce your report. The contractor name and city/state are the inputs to the vetting research. Your name (if provided) is used to address the report.
2. Send you the report and related communications. Your email is used for the report download link, the order confirmation, and follow-up communications about the specific order.
3. Process your payment. Stripe receives the information necessary to process the charge.
4. Operate and secure the Site. Web server logs are used to diagnose errors, detect abuse, and respond to security incidents.

We do not sell or rent your information to third parties. We do not use your information for marketing other products.

How long we keep it

• Order records and email correspondence: retained for 24 months so we can support refund and correction requests, and so we can comply with applicable tax and accounting obligations.
• Generated reports: stored on our server for 30 days after delivery, then permanently deleted. Your secure download link expires after 7 days; after that, the report cannot be retrieved without re-running it.
• Web server logs: retained for 30 days, then deleted.
• Payment records held by Stripe: subject to Stripe's own retention policies; please review Stripe's privacy policy for details.

Who we share it with

• Stripe - payment processing. Receives your email and the masked card details Stripe collects directly. See Stripe's privacy policy.
• Anthropic, PBC - operator of the Claude AI system that performs the contractor research and assembles your report. Anthropic processes the contractor name, the city/state, and (if you provided it) your name during report generation. Your email address is not shared with Anthropic. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details on Anthropic's own data handling.
• Web research targets - during report generation, the AI system queries public-record sources (state licensing boards, court systems, business directories, review platforms, manufacturer certification directories, etc.) for information about the named contractor. These queries include the contractor's name and location. They do not include your email or other personal information.
• Our email infrastructure provider - to deliver the report and order communications.
• Law enforcement, courts, or regulators - only if we are required to do so by valid legal process.

We do not share your information for advertising or marketing purposes. We do not have an affiliate program that would involve sharing data.

Your rights

You can:

• Access the personal information we hold about you (limited as it is - basically the order details and email correspondence).
• Correct any inaccuracy in your information.
• Delete your information, subject to legal retention obligations (e.g., we may need to keep an order record for tax purposes for the period required by law).
• Restrict or object to specific uses of your information.

Cookies

The Site uses minimal cookies - only what is necessary to maintain a session during checkout. We do not set advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. Stripe Checkout, which is the page where you enter your payment details, sets its own cookies; please review Stripe's privacy policy for details.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page and, where appropriate, communicated by email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
